Caring for cashmere
Cashmere rewards a little attention. Treated gently, it softens with each wear and keeps its shape for years.
- 01
Hand wash cold with a wool or cashmere wash, or dry clean.
- 02
Press out water gently. Do not wring.
- 03
Dry flat in shape, away from direct heat and sun.
- 04
Fold, never hang. Store with cedar to protect from moths.
- 05
Light pilling is natural in early wear. Remove with a cashmere comb.
Between wears
Let a sweater rest a day between wears so the fibres recover. Air it rather than washing after every wear; cashmere naturally resists odour.
Pilling
Small pills form where fibres rub, usually under the arms and at the cuffs. It is a sign of natural, long fibres settling in and slows after the first few wears. Lift them gently with a cashmere comb, never a razor.
Storage
Store folded in a breathable cotton bag with cedar or lavender. Avoid plastic, which traps moisture, and never store cashmere unwashed, as moths are drawn to skin oils.
